Confession
The room was silent and Tom kept his head in his hands, hoping the world would swallow him whole. He couldn’t handle this right now, especially not now. He could feel the eyes of the entire classroom full of students on him and he knew if he looked up he would do something to make the situation even worse.
Clear blue eyes stared at him, piercing his very soul as he trembled all over. Danny looked at him, confusion clear on his face, bottom lip sucked between his teeth, gnawing on it slightly.
Tom looked around, needing an exit as fast as possible. He couldn’t believe what was happening and he hoped beyond all reason that he was dreaming, that it wasn’t real, that it was all in his mind. The looks he knew he was getting would prove otherwise.
His heart thumped in his chest and he finally looked up, seeing Danny’s expectant look.
“I… I didn’t know,” Danny whispered.
“Well, now you do,” Tom bit out.
Danny took a step closer and Tom stood abruptly, not wanting the contact with the other male.
“How could you keep this from me?” Danny pleaded. “I had a right to know!”
Tom felt tears brimming in his eyes at Danny’s tone, the hurt clearly unmasked. “I… I couldn’t do that to you, to our family. What would mum have said?”
“Jake, you’re my brother, I could have helped you!” Danny said taking another step closer.
Tom looked up at Danny, tears finally spilling over. “No you couldn’t have,” he whispered. “No one can…”
“And end scene! That was great, boys!” their director, and teacher, called.
Tom grinned, wiping his eyes. “Thanks, sir.”
Danny clapped a hand on his shoulder. “Mate, that was brilliant!” he beamed. “I didn’t know you could cry on cue like that!”
Tom flushed slightly. “I’ve been practicing,” he mumbled, a little embarrassed.
Tom and Danny were in the school play about a boy who had a terminal illness but was determined to keep it from his family and everyone else. Tom had been cast as Jake, the boy with the illness and Danny played Bobby, his twin brother.
As they left the drama room, Danny slung his arm around Tom’s shoulders. “Mum’s cooking a roast for dinner, if you want to come over?”
Tom nodded, a smile on his face. “I’d love to!” he agreed happily.
Danny beamed back at Tom. “Great!” he said.
They walked together, out of the school and towards Tom’s house as it was the closest. He stopped in to tell his mum that he was going to Danny’s for dinner and that he would probably spend the night as well.
His mother had nodded and sent them on their way, she and Mister Fletcher were going out to dinner together and his little sister, Carrie was attending a slumber party at friend’s house as well.
Tom packed a change of clothes and his toothbrush into his school back pack and soon he and Danny were walking the short distance to Danny’s house.
Tom always loved visiting Danny’s house. His mum was a lovely lady who made the best roast dinners Tom had ever had the pleasure of tasting and she let them stay up late when it was the weekend.
Danny had a large bedroom as it was only he and his mum living together now. His only sister was away at university and lived on campus and Danny’s dad left his mother a few years ago for another woman. It left a big house just for Danny and his mum to occupy and it was probably another reason Missus Jones loved having him over, another body in an otherwise empty house.
Tom never minded. He loved being with Danny – probably more than Danny realised. He had been harbouring a crush on his best friend for the best part of six months now and he had yet to confess his feelings to the gorgeous brunette.
Just over a year beforehand, Tom had come out to Danny. He had been shaking and scared, unsure of what his reaction would be. Danny, in true Danny style, had slapped him on the shoulder and told him not to worry because ‘he was into boys as well.’ It had eased Tom’s mind and made him feel somewhat better about himself.
After Tom’s ‘coming out’ speech to Danny, they had grown even closer and Tom soon realised that he felt something more than friendship for the loud Boltoner. He was much too scared to tell Danny how he felt though, fear of rejection always prominent in his mind.
He knew what Danny would do if he were in Tom’s shoes, he’d spill the beans and confess everything. Tom wasn’t like Danny though. He was shy, conservative in his feelings and emotions. He had too much to risk by telling Danny how he felt, so he kept it inside, concealed to the best of his ability.
Danny never suspected a thing, which Tom was grateful for. Danny was oblivious to a lot of things that might be somewhat obvious to someone else but Tom was glad he was like that, it made hiding his feelings easier.
After dinner, Danny took Tom into his room to play some video games. Tom was losing, as always, he never really had a knack for these things, when Danny suddenly turned to him and said he needed to say something.
Tom sat up straighter. “Yeah?” he prompted.
Danny hesitated, fiddling with the hem of his shirt – something Tom had never seen him do – and a moment later, he felt Danny’s lips on his own.
Confusion and shock clouded Tom’s mind and he pulled back.
“Wha-?”
“I’m sorry!” Danny exclaimed at the same time as Tom stumbled over his words.
Tom blinked, a frown of confusion on his face.
Danny stood. “I’m so sorry, Tom!” he repeated. “I… I…”
Tom stood as well. “What was that?” he asked.
Danny scratched the back of his neck, eyes barely meeting Tom’s. “I’ve been dyin’ to tell you for a while now,” he muttered.
“Tell me what?” Tom asked, trying to read Danny’s face.
“ThatIlikeyou,” Danny mumbled in a rush.
Tom broke the gap between them and pulled Danny into a hug, arms going around his waist. “I like you too,” he replied.
He felt Danny’s arms tentatively wrap around him and Tom couldn’t help but smile. He certainly wasn’t expecting that confession when he entered Danny’s house tonight. It certainly wasn’t unwanted though.
Danny gently pulled away from the embrace and kissed Tom again. Tom felt his heart soar and all of the cheesy romance movies he’d ever seen suddenly made sense. He felt like he was floating on air and never wanted his lips to leave Danny’s.
“Well, I’m glad that’s out in the open,” Danny said after a short while.
“Me too,” Tom smiled.
“Want to shoot some more zombies?”
Tom chuckled and nodded. Purely Danny, he thought as they sat back on Danny’s bed to finish playing their game.

Danny, in true Danny style, had slapped him on the shoulder and told him not to worry because ‘he was into boys as well.’
Made me smile so hard, not even kidding, 'cause I can totally see Danny doing that. And the last bit was adorable. :)
Loved it.
*giggles* I can imagine Danny doing that as well. He's so nonchalant about everything, nothing phases him, it's great.
Thank you for the lovely comment, sweetie, it made my night!!
